(Scripture to be on Screen during Prelude but not read)
“Verset” by Abraham Van Den Kerchkhoven
1 Thessalonians 4:13.
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death,
so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
OPENING SCRIPTURE: 1 Thessalonians 4:16.
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command,
with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God,
and the dead in Christ will rise first.
CALL TO WORSHIP – from Psalm 84.
How lovely is your dwelling place,
LORD Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.
HYMN OF PRAISE: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling 336
CALL TO CONFESSION
The proof of God’s amazing love is this:
While we were sinners Christ lived for us, died for us and lives for us.
Because we have faith in him, we dare to approach God with confidence.
In faith and penitence, let us confess our sin before God and one another,
Knowing that Christ has already forgiven us.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord Jesus, you seem absent
when we struggle with suffering,
but you are there with your strength:
Lord, have mercy.
Jesus Christ, often we forget you
in the cares of everyday life,
but you are there with us:
Christ, have mercy.
Lord Jesus, we neglect to care for you
in our sick and neglected brothers and sisters,
but you want us to serve you in them:
Lord, have mercy.
Forgive us all our sins, Lord,
and make us look for your presence.
Walk with us and lead us
to the feast of everlasting life.
(Please offer your own silent prayers)
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS– Rev. Bob Hill
THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
Leader: May the Peace of Christ be with you all
Response: And also with you
SINGING: “Surely the Presence of the Lord”
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.
I can feel God's mighty power and God's grace.
I can hear the brush of angel's wings,
I see glory on each face.
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
SCRIPTURE LESSON: Matthew 25:1-13
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming,
and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise,
‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead,
go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived.
The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
ANTHEM: Lean on Me
SCRIPTURE LESSON: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death,
so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word,
we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord,
will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven,
with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
