WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRELUDE AND TIME OF PREPARATION: “Andantino” by A Khachaturian
(Scripture to be on Screen during Prelude but not read)
Mark 13:32.
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
OPENING SCRIPTURE: Mark 13:37.
What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”
CALL TO WORSHIP – from Psalm 65.
Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.
Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.
ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING: Wayne and Patti Wyatt
Speaker 1: Why do we light the Advent Candle of Hope?
Speaker 2: Because God spoke through the Prophet Jeremiah and said, “The Days are coming, when I will raise up for David
a righteous Branch, A king who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.”
Speaker 1: That time has begun but is not finished.
Speaker 2: But we light the first candle with Hope that God will bring Peace, Joy, and Love to the world.
(Speaker 1 will light the candle)
Speaker 2: Let us pray:
Congregation: Lord of Hope, thank you for the promise of Peace, Joy, and Love. Help us to seek you as our King,
Both in Jesus and the Christ who will return.
*HYMN OF PRAISE: “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” 88
*CALL TO CONFESSION
Please Stand for the Call to Confession:
Let us confess our sins to each other and pray for each other so that we may be healed, trusting that our Loving Lord
has already healed and forgiven us.
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Advent God, forgive us when we pay more attention to satisfying our own needs, than seeking you and your will for our lives--
for being more interested in possessing the material things of life, rather than your spiritual gifts. Turn our lives around
so that we are looking in the right direction - towards you. Only then can we hope to recognise the signs of your presence
in the world.
(Please offer your own silent prayers)
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
Leader: May the Peace of Christ be with you all.
Response: And also with you.
*SINGING: “Surely the Presence of the Lord”
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.
I can feel God's mighty power and God's grace.
I can hear the brush of angel's wings,
I see glory on each face.
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
SCRIPTURE LESSON: Isaiah 64:1-9
Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down,
that the mountains would tremble before you!
As when fire sets twigs ablaze
and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name known to your enemies
and cause the nations to quake before you!
For when you did awesome things that we did not expect,
you came down, and the mountains trembled before you.
Since ancient times no one has heard,
no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
You come to the help of those who gladly do right,
who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
you were angry.
How then can we be saved?
All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
No one calls on your name
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
and have given us over to our sins.
Yet you, LORD, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.
Do not be angry beyond measure, LORD;
do not remember our sins forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
for we are all your people.
ANTHEM: “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”
SCRIPTURE LESSON: Mark 13:24-37.
“But in those days, following that distress,
“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’
“At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels
and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.
“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you,
this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away,
but my words will never pass away.
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert!
You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge,
each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
“Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening,
or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.
What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”
SERMON: He is Coming
*HYMN: “While We are Waiting, Come” 92
