Fourth Sunday of the Month:

Trusting in the mercy of God,
let us come in confession with the knowledge that the God of Creation has already forgiven us.
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
God of the people,
you have called us to walk humbly before you
and to share in the struggle with the least of these,
yet we have failed to live up to this call.
Today, we come before you
asking your Spirit to empower us
to be agents of transformation for the world.
Make us a chalice from which all the oppressed
can find the living waters of God,
who calls us to live a life of service, of humility,
and of reconciliation with you, with creation,
and with the world.
(Please offer your own silent prayers)
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

THE PRESENTATION
MINISTER: Bring Forth the Tartans.
Minister: Raise the Tartans!
People: We raise them up to God!
Minister: We praise God for our heritage of Faith.
People: We give thanks for God’s eternal presence.
Minister: With the people of this Kirk we raise these tartans before Almighty God in appreciation of our heritage,
and we ask God’s blessing on all the clans, ethnicities, races, and families represented among us.
Almighty God, you have promised that wherever two or three are gathered in your name
you will meet with your servants to bless them, fulfill now your promise, and make us joyful in the house of the Lord,
that our worship being offered in the name of your Son and by the guidance of your Holy Spirit may be acceptable to you.
Bless, we pray, these tartans that they may be to us and to all a token of the faith of our ancestors
and a sign of our service to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.
Minister: Let the world know that God’s truth abideth still.
People: God’s kingdom is forever.
PRAYER OF BLESSING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER:
O Lord, bless the tartans we have presented today and bless the people of the clans which they signify.
May we strive to live up to the very highest ideals they represent.
Bless us that we may be a blessing, O Lord.
We thank you, God, for your Word which has ordained a rich heritage of faith and sacrifice from our ancestors:
from Adam to Noah, from Noah to Abraham, from Abraham to David, so onward to the incarnation of Jesus,
to the establishment of his church: our brothers and sisters in Christ everywhere.
Never let us forget that a heritage of faith is a joy to be shared.
Bless us that we may be a blessing, O Lord.
Thank you, O God, for the blessings of family; the warmth, comfort, and security of family love.
Never let us forget that our family love is a gift to be shared with kin and stranger.
Bless us that we may be a blessing, O Lord.
We praise you, O God, for those who have lived and died in Christ that we might have the freedom to dwell in a community of faith. Never let us forget the sacrifices made for us.
Bless us that we may be a blessing, O Lord.
On behalf of all clans, families, and nations, we stand before God in gratitude for our heritage,
and we pray God’s blessings on all beloved children in all lands.
We proclaim that we are united in the covenant of Jesus, the Christ, for there is but one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
one God and Father of us all. Amen.
Our Father…
PRESENTATION OF THE TEA TOWEL
SPECIAL MUSIC: “Amazing Grace”
SCRIPTURE LESSON: (Lay Leader will read) Ezekiel 34:20-24.
“‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away,
I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another.
I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.
I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the LORD have spoken.
ANTHEM: “Gift of Love” by Hal Hopson
SCRIPTURE LESSON: (Rev. Bob Hill will read) Matthew 25:31-46.
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another
as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father;
take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison,
and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. ”

Kirkin’ of the Tartan: Scots Confession of 1560, Chapter 1
We confess and acknowledge one God alone,
to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve,
whom only we must worship, and in whom alone is our trust.
Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible;
one in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.
By whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible,
to have been created, to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by his inscrutable providence
for such end as his eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice may have appointed,
and to the manifestation of his own glory.
